St Francis of Assisi was canonized in 1086 at the first Roman Catholic Church in what is today known as Terni, Italy. He is recognized as a patron saint of all people and is considered the patron saint of Christians and Jews. One of the most well known legends about St Francis is that of his raising of the cross on Christmas Day. This is where the story of St Francis of Assisi legend began.

St Francis of Assisi was known for many different things throughout the centuries. One of them was his true love for the environment and nature. When he was alive, many legends were written about him and some of them included recollections of his great love for the natural world. There is even a story about him being visited by a very holy man who converted him to Christianity.
